The British competition regulator said on Monday that it was investigating whether the US chip manufacturer Broadcom's US $61 billion acquisition of cloud computing company VMware would significantly weaken competition.

According to Reuters, the transaction between Broadcom and VMware was announced in May, marking Broadcom's attempt to diversify its business and enter the enterprise software field. CEO Hock Tan previously said that the acquisition case covered three major themes, namely, multi cloud, cloud native software development and pricing. In the future, VMware's participation will provide a set of software and hardware solutions to meet enterprise cloud needs.

In addition, Broadcom is also seeking the EU's anti-monopoly approval. We are confident that this transaction will not bring any competition problems, and we look forward to cooperating with the European Commission in the whole process The company expects this cooperation to be completed in the 2023 fiscal year.

It is reported that the Competition and Market Administration of the United Kingdom will seek the opinions of relevant parties before December 6 to help them evaluate whether to formally investigate the transaction between Broadcom and VMware.
